An Enhanced DBS Check, also known as an Enhanced Disclosure Check, provides a more in-depth review of an individual's criminal history and is primarily used for positions that involve working closely with children, vulnerable adults, or in sensitive industries where safeguarding is critical. This level of disclosure reveals both spent and unspent convictions, as well as any warnings, reprimands, or cautions present on an individual’s record. Importantly, an Enhanced DBS Check can also include additional information held by local police forces that is deemed relevant to the role being applied for. This additional layer of information can be crucial in determining an individual’s suitability for roles with elevated safeguarding responsibilities.

One of the key distinctions of an Enhanced DBS Check is that it also includes a check against the barred lists for individuals who are prohibited from working with children or vulnerable adults. If an applicant is found to be on the barred list, they will be automatically disqualified from taking up any role involving these groups, adding a further level of protection for organizations that work in sensitive environments.

The Enhanced DBS Check is a legal requirement for specific roles, particularly those in the healthcare, education, and childcare sectors. It is also required for anyone engaging in regulated activity, such as social workers, teachers, and care home staff, who are responsible for the safety and welfare of vulnerable individuals. For these roles, safeguarding concerns are of paramount importance, and the Enhanced DBS Check offers the most comprehensive background screening available.

At Making a Difference, we understand the importance of ensuring that those who work with vulnerable individuals undergo the most thorough background screening possible. Our Enhanced Disclosure service is designed to support organizations in sectors where safeguarding is essential, enabling them to meet their legal obligations and protect those in their care. With the growing emphasis on safeguarding and compliance, more organizations are opting for Enhanced DBS Checks, even in cases where it may not be strictly required by law, to demonstrate their commitment to maintaining a safe and secure environment.

The Enhanced DBS Check process can provide employers with the peace of mind they need when hiring for sensitive roles, ensuring that they are fully informed of any risks associated with potential employees. Our service is tailored to meet the unique needs of these sectors, ensuring a smooth and efficient process that keeps organizations compliant and secure.

Enhanced DBS Check

An Enhanced Disclosure is only suitable for certain eligible roles, such as teachers, nurses, certain care workers, etc. The Enhanced Disclosure certificate will contain details of relevant spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands and warnings that are held on the Police National Computer, which are not subject to filtering, and may also contain non-conviction information supplied by relevant police forces, if it is deemed relevant. If eligible, an enhanced disclosure can also include a check of the child and/or adult barred lists.
